I continued on until the pain got pretty rough.
I am J.D. Bowser, SGT. USANG. I was injured in Iraq Oct. 2009. (Of all things to happen, I fell off a truck on COB Adder in Tallil.
I started out in the Marine Corps in 1993 with two deployments to the Persian Gulf. I started out as supply in Barstow California and ended up as an ammunition technician at Camp Pendleton, California. I had a few sports related injuries that prevented me from furthering my Marine Corps career. With that I got out of the Marines and went into the Navy Reserves. I was with EODGROUP-1 out of Coronado, California. I worked with them from 2004 – 2008. I was supposed to be in supply but worked primarily as a construction worker with a few other sea-bees.
I got out of the Navy Reserves and went into the New Mexico Army National Guard. I went to Infantry school in Ft. Bliss Texas. I was put into the Bravo Co. 1st / 200th out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Immediately I was transferred upon request to the 1115th Convoy Security Company from Santa Fe as a truck commander. Soon after deploying I fell from a truck, unloading the ammunition and gear, hitting the tow bar which flipped me down to the ground injuring my right shoulder, head, and back. I continued on until the pain got pretty rough. I was sent to Germany for some test which showed I had some major issues about five months after the accident I was sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where I received surgery on my right shoulder and back. During the process of my recovery there were some set –backs with the medical process of medications not working at all and some with the loss of family members. I fell into a deep depression and that is where Operation Second Chance stepped in and got me out of my room and helped re-engage me back into the public light. For that I thank my wife Pauline Bowser (who diagnosed me) and Cindy McGrew who got me back out there again (my true heroes). God Bless you and a huge thanks once again.
During my recovery I achieved my ordainment in the ministry and now that I am retired, I plan to go to school to pursue that goal.
